Subject:

Please add a second paddle on Slow Lake Street

Message:

I am writing to encourage you to quickly implement a second purple “Slow Streets” paddle at all Slow Lake Street intersections. The current design is a failure.

I am very concerned about the increased traffic on Slow Lake Street in the past year. Traffic now exceeds 2,000 cars per day on an average weekday, with 80% driving over 15 mph. This is double the SFMTA Slow Street limit of 1000 cars per day at 15 mph.

Slow Streets must be safe, comfortable, shared corridors for all. The current level of car traffic creates a dangerous situation for people on foot and bike, especially children, and others who use the street.

Other San Francisco Slow Streets have two purple “Slow Street” paddles per lane that help to reduce the volume of cars and discourage speeding.

Adding a second paddle to Slow Lake intersections is a low-cost, low-effort way for the city to calm traffic and ensure that Slow Lake has a consistent treatment with the rest of the Slow Street network.

SFMTA’s own rules require new infrastructure.

Thank you
