The MTA staff is NOT making a recommendation on Slow Lake Street and will leave it up to the MTA Board to make the FINAL decision as to whether Lake Street will remain slow and be included in the city’s Slow Streets Program. Read the MTA’s Fall 2022 Slow Street Update.
We once again need the MTA Board to show leadership on Slow Lake Street and the Slow Streets Program. The vocal minority has harassed, bullied and spread misinformation in an attempt to divide our community and return full traffic to Lake Street. Our attempts to work with opponents fell through when they abruptly abandoned our meetings and subsequently renewed their attacks in unison with groups that supported Prop I. Together, they are laser focused on reversing Lake Street’s slow status. A reversal of the MTA Board’s vote on the permanency of Slow Lake would set a terrible precedent by giving legitimacy to divisive tactics in reversing sound policy supported by our community.
The MTA Board’s vote on Dec. 6th at 3:00 PM is critical in ensuring that we continue to move forward on safety, climate and livability.
